Justin Bieber has a lot going for himâ"that is for sure. The teen pop sensation is on fire with his cute-turned-handsome looks; his countless Beliebers at every turn; his romance with girlfriend, Selena Gomez; and his near-unbelievable amount of fame for his 18 years, which only seems to be skyrocketing more with his latest track, "Boyfriend," and his new album, appropriately dubbed Believe. But despite all his triple-threat talent, that swagger and those screaming fans, could it be possible that the "Baby" singer is lacking confidence? Yes, you better believe it!
Bieber turned up the volume for his recent Today show performance at New York City's Rockefeller Plaza, where a mere 10,000 crowded in to catch a glimpse of their favorite entertainer. But, he also sat down with the show's Matt Lauer, and showed a slightly different side than the one on stage.
"I'm 18 and have a lot of insecurities. At the end of the day, me, being in my position doesn't get rid of those insecurities," Bieber admitted, as Access Hollywood reports. Indeed, there are probably a good many famous entertainers who share some lapses in confidence at times, especially with the constant crush of the spotlight and the pressure of the industry.
And while Bieber didn't provide details on exactly what those anxieties might be and if any of them involve his relationship with Selena Gomez, he did allude to the challenge of transitioning from his teeny-bopper days to a more mature music icon.
"I think [my new album, Believe] is about proving people wrong and going out there and making good music and going out there and performing better than everyone else," Bieber said. "That's what I have to do to cross over [to being an adult performer], or else I'll just be another teen heart-throb, and I want to be remembered."
Not that there's anything wrong with being a "teen heart-throb," but it's admirable that Justin Bieber is seeing the big picture. Perhaps he knows that far too many teen sensations have faded away and lost popularity, as they failed to "grow up" with their fans and develop a more general appeal. He's obviously wanting to make sure his career a long one and has even talked about exploring the acting routeâ"something his songstress girlfriend has already done with her upcoming movies like Spring Breakers.
Justin Bieber did reveal one of his big, albeit funny, faults. "I'm pretty clumsy and I don't see glass walls. I think I wasn't wired to see glass walls," he said. And this can definitely be an occupational hazard when it comes to his concert stage props, as he sustained a concussion during a performance in Paris. "I'm all right," the Biebs assured, though.
