Be that as it may, the facts are immutable. Justin was reportedly exceeding the 65 mph speed limit. Although the CHP officer who stopped him did not release his exact speed, there was an eyewitness who did. Unfortunately for the Boyfriend singer, the eyewitness was none other than L.A. City Councilman Dennis Zine who clocked the "Boyfriend" singer's wild ride at more than 100 mph. Councilman Zine, who, ironically worked as an LAPD motorcycle cop for 18 years (oops!) was outraged.
"Bieber was driving like a maniac," Zine recalls. "He was weaving in and out of traffic. There was hardly any space between cars as he weaved from lane to lane. If I was on patrol, I would have arrested him for reckless driving. I was going 60, and he drove by me like he was in a rocket ship. He was a maniac."
Unfortunately for Selena Gomez's man, it looks like Councilman Zine is not a belieberâ"true or otherwise. In a later statement, he opined that "Bieber should have been cuffed, locked up, and stripped of his driving privileges."
To reiterate: Yikes.
But what about the so-called real villains of this sad and sadly dangerous story, the nefarious paparazzi? What happened to them?
Justin claimed he was trying to lose the paps who were chasing him. Even Councilman Zine calls the paps "incredibly irresponsible, driving on the shoulder of the freeway and causing an extreme hazard." Not only that, even after the cops pulled JB over, four photogs started "swarming Biebs' car." According to Scooter Braun, the paps continued to follow Justin after he was ticketed and allowed to go on his way. When they wouldn't back off, Justin called 911. The cops then returned, caught up with Justin yet again, and told the incredibly persistent paps to cease and desist.
So, there you have it. Justin Bieber's highway ordeal. Presumably, JB was alone in his car throughout the high-speed drama. That's a good thing. Imagine how freaked out the Disney-raised, clean-image conscious Selena Gomez would have been during the whole fiasco. What would she have said? When she calmed down? Or when she came to? Or whatever?
You can watch the cops ticketing Justin Bieber and also Councilman Zine talking about JB's "total disregard for the safety of everyone" on the videos below. What do you think?
