It’s looking more and more likely that “Saturday Night Live” mainstay Seth Meyers will succeed Regis Philbin as Kelly Ripa’s permanent co-host on “Live!” beginning this fall.

Also said to be in the running is singer Josh Groban, but show sources say the “SNL” veteran and Northwestern University alum has the inside track.“Kelly loves him. [Executive producer]

Michael Gelman loves him, and so does everyone else who plays a role in the decision-making process,” said a longtime “Live!” staffer. If the deal is done, Meyers is expected to continue with his “Weekend Update” appearances, but according to, he would need to step down as “SNL’s” head writer.

A talk-show gig does seem like a natural move for Meyers, whose quick wit and ability to ad lib effortlessly would fit perfectly into the format.

Also, unlike other “SNL” alums, Meyers has never lusted for a film career. As he told the Sun-Times in 2007, “I have incredibly limited range as an actor.”

The possibility of Meyers joining the show has been bandied about for quite a while, and he told the Sun-Times last summer he’s a big Ripa fan:

“Very few people are as good at doing what she does. I mean, you go in and the producers run through the segments for that day’s show, and then she gets out there and just talks about what she wants to talk about. She’s just really funny being off-the-cuff like that.”

A big test for Meyers comes next week as he guest co-hosts with Ripa during an important July ratings sweeps week.

NOT TOO SUBTLE: A number of music industry types are chuckling about Justin Bieber’s whining about people not respecting his privacy. The teen superstar constantly goes to very public places â€" including well-traveled fast-food joints and big shopping malls â€" pulling up in his unique set of wheels: a custom Porsche sedan totally sheathed in chrome.

“It’s so shiny that when he drives it on a sunny day â€" which is like every day in L.A.! â€" that damn car can nearly blind other drivers with the refection!” said a major music honcho.

† There’s word Bieber’s relationship with girlfriend Selena Gomez is facing some stormy times. Reacting to reports the high-profile teen couple have split â€" and then may be giving it another try â€" a family friend of Gomez put it succinctly:

“They may be famous kids, but that’s the point. They are kids! They are teenagers! Besides dealing with all the things kids that age go through, they also have that fame thing to deal with as well,” said the Gomez source. “All kids that age go through so many relationships â€" and they should. That’s only normal.”

TAKE A BOW: The 100 Club of Chicago and the Apparel Industry Board, Inc. again are teaming up to honor Chicagoans with leadership awards for philanthropy. The Oct. 3 Four Seasons Hotel gala will toast Cook County Board president Toni Preckwinkle, Modern Luxury Media president John Carroll and Cubs chairman Tom Ricketts. The evening’s dinner chair is 2011 honoree and veteran civic leader Lori Healey, and it’s co-chaired by the 100 Club’s Joe Ahern and AIBI’s Marsha Brenner.

† Chicago’s Beverly Ridge Pictures filmmakers Chris Charles, John W. Bosher and Kevin Moss are thrilled their short feature “The Small Assassin” has been tapped for the Comic-Con International Film Festival in San Diego July 12. The film was adapted from a short story by the late Ray Bradbury, who was very supportive of the film.

DOWN THE AISLE: Congrats to Miami Dolphins player and former “Dancing With the Stars” contestant Chad Ochocinco and “Basketball Wives” personality Evelyn Lozada, who tied the knot Wednesday in Miami â€" a happy event where the groom continuously tweeted through the whole ceremony!

TAKE NOTE: Popular local singer Ava Logan is exciting that she will be performing with the Chicago Jazz Orchestra, 5 to 8 p.m. Monday at Andy’s Jazz Club, 11 E. Hubbard. SEEN ON THE SCENE: While here promoting the documentary about his life, Academy Award-winning musician Paul Williams dined at Hugo’s Frog Bar. … Sox GM Kenny Williams was spotted at Tavern on Rush with the Rangers’ manager Ron Washington and first base coach Gary Pettis. … “Man v. Food” TV personality Adam Richman checked out RPM Italian.
