Justin Bieber and Selena Gomez took Wednesdayâs date night down the coast to the Long Beach Arena for a Phish concert. Guitarist Dan Kanter, Justinâs musical director, is a huge fan and friend of the classic bandâ"light on lyrics and long on rockabillyâ"and he had long wanted to bring Bieber and Phish together. It worked out beautifully, says the Hollywood Reporter. A good time was had by all, including the other concert-goers.
One thing that had been holding Justin Bieber back was his age. Unlike Justinâs fans, Phish devotees are generally over 18. But the pop singer threw himself right into the action, wearing a green tie-dye tee shirt and another of his favorite vintage ball caps. His whistle hung around his neck. Selenaâs outfit stayed neutral, but she wore a large floppy hat, in black.
Phish played two long sets. Justin Bieber and Selena Gomez went backstage during the intermission, to meet the guys. They hung out with everyone, including some band membersâ kids. Selena was snapped holding a baby, and they posed and talked music, naturally, and lighting directors they have shared.
During the second set, the traditional glow stick war broke out. Justin Bieber and Selena Gomez came prepared with a stash of the colorful plastic toys, which they hurled into the crowd. The couple was expected to leave about then, but the show was too much fun. They âwere having a blast,â a witness said. Justin and Selena stayed until the show was almost overâ"then they quietly slipped out the back.
